The white chuck in the top photo is a 3" to 4" PVC adapter
coupler mounted on a Giffin grip. There are a variety of adapters from
1/2" to 6" in diameter.
Regular couplers (same size on both
ends) are not as tall. As an example, a 4" coupler is about half the
height as the one in the photo.
I have a collection
of different
sizes and just pick the one I need. If you are trimming something with
a long stem or neck all you need to do is to add some PVC pipe to
clear the wheel head.
To center the pot I slowly spin the wheel
and use my pointer finger, watching how close the pot is to my finger.
This makes it easier to spot an off-center pot. I also have a small
plastic level that I keep around to aid in leveling if needed.
The foam between the coupler and the pot is the foam that comes in the
box of Orton cones.
I use jar lids to hold the pot in place while I
trim. I use a little downward pressure letting the cap spin under my
index finger to hold the pot down. |
